Project Overview:

“HypeLocal” is a dedicated travel app that brings digital nomads and remote workers together from all corners of the globe. Whether you're on the move for work or just exploring, this app helps you connect and share experiences with like-minded travelers.

Problem Statement:

Digital nomads and remote workers often experience feelings of isolation while traveling due to limited tools that help them connect with others in new destinations. The lack of a centralized, user-friendly platform for discovering social events or meeting like-minded individuals reduces their ability to form meaningful connections, ultimately diminishing their travel satisfaction and engagement.

Why create a travel connection app?

The 'HypeLocal' app addresses isolation for digital nomads and remote workers by helping users discover events, connect with like-minded professionals, and enhance their travel experiences through social and cultural opportunities:

  • Join events and meetups nearby

  • Connect with like-minded professionals to expand your network

  • Discover hidden gems and local favorites with new friends

Design Process - Double Diamond:

“ One of the best parts about traveling is experiencing things with someone else.”

User Interview Insights - Define Phase:

Early Hypothesis - Discover Phase:

User Research:

I conducted user interviews with digital nomads and remote workers to identify challenges in building connections while traveling, uncovering insights to inform a user-centered solution.

Insights of the User Interviews

  • Debbie, Freelance Video Editor, Interviews by Phone

  • Sierra, Remote TikTok Strategist, Interviews by Video Call

  • Shantel, Hybrid Manager of Finance, Interviewed in person

“ I want to go to a platform to get exactly what I want when traveling.”

Sketches:

“ I want to find local stuff in my location instead of deeply diving into the internet to find it.”

The user interviews helped me understand travelers' pain points and priorities. I found that work trips often mix professional and personal experiences. These insights influenced the app’s features, focusing on making connections and recommending activities based on shared interests to enhance this blend of work and leisure.

User Flow:

User testing and market research shaped the information architecture and user flow, helping me identify pain points, prioritize needs, and design intuitive navigation for a seamless experience.

User Persona:

Based on this User Flow, I have conducted a persona that represents the ideal user. This persona and research helped me find the potential solutions for their problems and allowed me to find similar layouts of making an easy-to-use layout to meet the user’s goals and solve their frustrations.

Mapping the user flow clarified my design vision, enabling me to create labeled sketches that represented the app's functionality. These sketches served as a foundation for testing and refining ideas with user participants.

Low-Fi Wireframes - Develop Phase:

I utilized research and collaboration skills to create a low-fi wireframe, gathering stakeholder feedback to refine the design. This process combined effective communication with technical proficiency, paving the way for a detailed high-fidelity prototype.

High-Fi Prototypes:

After finishing up the low-fi wireframes, I created the high-fi prototypes.

User Testing - Deliver Phase:

I conducted user testing to evaluate HypeLocal's usability, functionality, and alignment with traveler needs, aiming to uncover areas for improvement and validate key design decisions. Participants included both end users, such as professional participants, travelers, and stakeholders, providing diverse insights into the app's effectiveness
